Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital redevelopment - Stage 1

The Victorian Government invested $6.3 million in stage 1 of the Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital redevelopment in Edenhope, western Victoria.

Stage 1 included the construction of an 18-bed high care residential aged care facility with private rooms and ensuites, with dementia friendly common areas and landscaped gardens. The project was funded through the Victorian Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.

The $490 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund is the largest grant program of its kind in Victorian history. It provides vital government funding to rural and regional public health and residential aged care services across Victoria. This funding enables these services to continue to provide safe and efficient care to local communities.

COMMON AREAS

Stage 1 of the Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital aged care redevelopment delivered:  

  • 18 high care residential aged care beds in private rooms with ensuites 
  • dementia-friendly design, built around shared social spaces and a central courtyard 
  • installation of fire suppression pumps and water tanks 
  • relocation of maintenance facility and LPG supply.

Stage 2 and 3 will be funded by Edenhope District Memorial Hospital through a community bequest.

Stage 1 of the Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital aged care redevelopment aimed to achieve the following benefits:

More private rooms

All 18 beds are in private rooms with their own bathrooms, offering improved privacy, dignity and independence to residents. This replaced the existing four-bed ward structure. 

Convenience of low and high care 

The new high care facility is co-located next to the existing low care facility, making it easier for residents to be transferred between low care and high care facilities as their needs increase.

Dementia-friendly

The design of the new high care facility is dementia-friendly and with the layout built around shared social spaces and a central courtyard were constructed to increase a sense of community.

Largest program of its kind

The $490 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, which includes the Public Sector Residential Aged Care Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, is the largest grant program of its kind in Victorian history. It provides vital funding to rural and regional public health and residential aged care services to invest in modern infrastructure and equipment. This supports the services to continue to provide safe and efficient care to local communities.

Funding for this project was administered by the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.

This project was delivered by Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital in partnership with:

  • dwp (architect)
  • Locks Constructions (builder).

Please note: As of 1 February 2021, the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority (VHHSBA) became the Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA).
