Broadmeadows Hospital Surgery Centre

The $17.3 million Broadmeadows Hospital Surgery Centre project was completed in 2017. This project was designed to provide access to emergency and elective surgery to meet the growing health and wellbeing needs of the north west.

Upgrades included the addition of two new theatres. The on-site pharmacy and radiology services were also expanded and pathology collection was improved.

PATIENT RECEPTION AND RECOVERY FACILITIES

The Broadmeadows Hospital Surgery Centre project delivered:  

  • two new operating theatres with anaesthetic induction rooms and set up areas  
  • new patient reception and recovery facilities  
  • relocating the endoscopy suite to the new theatre complex  
  • provision of space for a second endoscopy suite in the future  
  • expansion of radiology services and radiation safety within the new operating theatres  
  • improved pathology collection systems to meet increased patient volumes 
  • on-site pharmacy expansion.

The Broadmeadows Hospital Surgery Centre project aimed to achieve the following benefits: 

Meet growing health needs 

Adding two new theatres, expanding on-site pharmacy and radiology services and improving pathology collection can support Broadmeadows Hospital to meet the growing health and wellbeing needs of the north west. 

Elective surgery support 

With two new operating theatres, Broadmeadows Hospital now has the capacity to to provide more specialised and complex emergency and elective surgical procedures. 

Services closer to home 

Accessing surgery closer to home is more convenient for patients and it can reduce the need for patients and families to travel longer distances for treatment and care. 

This project was delivered by the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority in partnership with: 

  • Northern Health  
  • Cockram Construction (builder).
