Scope
The expansion to the Moorabbin Hospital imaging and outpatient expansion delivered:
- increased bed holding capacity in the medical imaging centre
- 11 more outpatient specialist consulting suites to a total of 21
- expanded waiting area
- new magnetic resonance imaging machine
- new positron emission tomography/computerised tomography (PET/CT) scanner
Over the construction period, extensive planning and staging of works meant that clinical services were able to remain operational in both the medical imaging and outpatient areas
Benefits
The Moorabbin Hospital imaging and outpatient expansion aimed to provide the following benefits:
Integrated care
The expanded facilities has enabled Moorabbin Hospital to provide improved integrated cancer treatment, care and support services to Melbourne’s rapidly growing southern suburbs and beyond with increased bed capacity and outpatient specialist suites.
Improved patient flow
The expansion and new patient waiting area has reduced congestion and increased patient throughout.
New technologies
New equipment will support the diagnosis of more patients so that they can receive effective treatment earlier.
