Scope
The critical care expansion added four more levels on top of the existing Catherine McAuley Centre. It expanded acute services by providing:
- 56 additional inpatient beds
- 8 new critical care beds
- 6 new operating theatres
- a new central sterilisation supply department and staff support areas.
The expansion also provided a new back of house kitchen and loading dock, and a 370-space multi-level car park.

The Werribee Mercy Hospital critical care expansion aimed to deliver the following benefits:
Better access to services
The expansion of services at Werribee Mercy Hospital aimed to provide increased access to health services. It was designed to allow Werribee Mercy Hospital to provide more efficient healthcare through better use of existing resources, and to improve patient outcomes by expanding the range of services offered locally.
Improved waiting times
The expansion aimed to enable Werribee Mercy Hospital to improve waiting times for elective surgery and the emergency department.
More services for a growing community
The Wyndham community population is predicted to increase by 193,000 people by 2031. The hospital expansion aimed to address the rapidly growing demand from this burgeoning community.
Improved parking access
The expansion added a new 370-space multi-level car park aimed at improving parking access for patients, visitors and staff.
