Scope
The Ballarat Health Services cardiac catheterisation laboratory at Ballarat Base Hospital project delivered
- a new cardiac catheterisation laboratory
- 12 recovery beds
- a new dedicated cardiac suite
- a new dedicated interventional radiology suite.
Benefits
The Ballarat Health Services cardiac catheterisation laboratory project aimed to deliver the following benefits:
Local treatment
Cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer of adults in Australia and people who live outside capital cities are at much greater risk. Ballarat has one of the highest rates of cardiovascular disease in Victoria. Having a second cath lab at Ballarat Base Hospital means more people can be treated sooner. Now, instead of having to go to Melbourne or Geelong, the people of western Victoria can have their cardiovascular conditions treated closer to home, with modern technology.
