Swan Hill District Health emergency department redevelopment

Location 48 Splatt Street, Swan Hill, Victoria, 3585, Australia

The Victorian Government is investing $35.7 million to redevelop Swan Hill District Health’s emergency department.

This funding will enable Swan Hill District Health to upgrade the emergency department with a new high-quality clinical environment that reflects contemporary models of care.

Once completed, the new emergency department will provide shorter wait times by more than doubling the number of points of care. To meet future demand, a short stay unit will also be added.

This latest funding will bring the total investment in the project to $65.7 million with the federal government contributing $30 million.

JOBS DURING CONSTRUCTION

The Swan Hill emergency department redevelopment is a new building on the existing Swan Hill District Health site.

It will deliver:

  • a new emergency department with additional treatment spaces, isolation room and a behavioural assessment room
  • a new entry on McCrae Street
  • eight additional points of care for a total of 15 new points of care
  • a four-bed short stay unit
  • shell medical imaging.

The Swan Hill District Health emergency department redevelopment aims to achieve the following benefits:

More services to meet growing demand

The redevelopment will more than double emergency department treatments spaces, increase the level and quality of services, improve wait times and support the increasing demand for services in the region.

Treating more patients closer to home

The expanded emergency department, which includes additional treatment spaces, will also provide more urgent care for communities closer to home.

Local jobs

The project will provide employment opportunities for the local community, with around 145 jobs created and sustained during the peak of construction.

This project is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority in partnership with:

  • Swan Hill District Health
  • Australian Government Department of Health
  • Silver Thomas Hanley (architect)
  • AW Nicholson (builder).
