Scope
The Wangaratta Hospital redevelopment delivered:
- a new 12-bed intensive care unit
- expanded emergency department with additional treatment spaces, isolation room and a behavioural assessment room
- a new eight-bed short stay unit
- new paediatric ward with eight single rooms, parent accommodation and kids’ playroom
- 11 additional medical beds to create two 20-bed inpatient units
- engineering infrastructure upgrades.

The Wangaratta Hospital redevelopment aims to achieve the following benefits:
More services to meet growing demand
The redevelopment has increased the level and quality of services, improved wait times and support the increasing demand for services in the region.
Treating more patients closer to home
The expanded emergency department, which includes additional treatment spaces, is providing more urgent care for communities closer to home.
Improved accessibility
Relocating the existing paediatric and women’s care units into a new location is also providing improved accessibility.
Local jobs
The redevelopment created approximately 60 jobs during construction, providing employment opportunities for local tradespeople and businesses.

Funding for this project was administered by the Victorian Health Building Authority through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.
