OPERATING THEATRES AND A PROCEDURE ROOM
EXTRA TREATMENT SPACES
NEW INPATIENT WARD
Scope
The Wonthaggi Hospital expansion project included:
- three new operating theatres
- one new procedure room
- a new emergency department and short stay with 18 additional treatment spaces
- 32 new inpatient beds
- car parking.
Benefits
The Wonthaggi Hospital expansion project aims to achieve the following benefits:
More capacity
The hospital has capacity to treat an extra 26,000 emergency patients each year.
Access to elective surgery, closer to home
The expansion project has delivered three new theatres and a procedure room, doubling the hospital's current capacity and enabling more procedures to be performed. This additional capacity also reduces the number of patient transfers to other hospitals, allowing patients to stay closer to home – and their families.
Improve quality of patient care
The expansion provides new and refurbished facilities. Access to the facility is improved, with fully compliant access for those with a disability.
Local jobs
The redevelopment created and sustained around 345 local jobs during the peak of construction.
Partners
This project was delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority in partnership with:
- Bass Coast Health
- Lyons (architect)
- TS Constructions (early works builder)
- Kane Constructions (main works builder).
