Portland Community Mental Health Centre redevelopment

Location 152 Percy Street, Portland, Victoria, 3305, Australia

The $1.5 million Portland Community Mental Health Centre opened in December 2020.

Funded via the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, the centre includes more consulting rooms and spaces for individual and group therapeutic activities, separate adult and children waiting areas and sensory gardens.

The modern centre is also equipped with telehealth and video conferencing facilities, and a multi-purpose conference room that the community can access.

The $490 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund is the largest grant program of its kind in Victorian history. The funding enables rural and regional public health services to continue to provide safe and efficient care to local communities.

FACILITIES

The new facility includes:

  • a multi-purpose conference room available for community use
  • five interview rooms
  • a child/family interview room
  • separate adult and child waiting areas
  • reception
  • sensory garden areas
  • a staff office and support area.

The Portland Community Mental Health Centre redevelopment aims to achieve the following benefits:

Increased capacity

The new centre has more consulting rooms, providing improved appointment scheduling and ability to treat more people. By increasing appointments to those in need and offering greater flexibility in delivering support, the centre will help reduce the number of crisis situations and flow on to emergency services.

Telehealth and video conferencing facilities

The centre is equipped with telehealth and video conferencing facilities, helping to provide treatment to more people who could not access, or afford travel expenses.

Better location

The new Portland Community Mental Health Centre is situated within Portland CBD, next to Portland Hospital and close to other health providers.

Supporting the 10 year mental health plan

The project supports Victoria’s 10 year mental health plan, promoting good mental health for all ages and stages of life. The new centre provides the Portland community with more flexible, responsive and accessible treatment and support to people of all ages, their families and carers.

Funding for this project was administered by the Victorian Health Building Authority through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.

The project was delivered in partnership with:

  • South West Healthcare
  • Kelly Architects
  • Craig Collins Building.
