The expanded Youang Surgery Centre is now complete and open to patients.
Services including endoscopy and day procedures are now being delivered from this new, modern facility.
These services were relocated from the aging Gretta Volum Centre as part of enabling works on the Barwon Women’s and Children’s.
With the relocation now complete, the Gretta Volum Centre will soon be demolished, creating space for the new Bellerine West outpatient building within the University Hospital Geelong precinct.
Enabling works were led by Barwon Health and delivered by Kane Constructions.
The Barwon Women’s and Children’s will deliver more capacity for women’s and paediatric health, ensuring families in Geelong and surrounding communities can continue to access the very best care, close to home.
The project will also provide a new neonatal and parent care unit, expanding the existing special care nursery for sick and pre-term babies.
The local community from Geelong and surrounds helped shape the project through extensive consultation including an online survey, workshops, and the project’s Community Consultative Committee.
More than 600 ideas for the project were shared helping to ensure the project meets the needs of the community for generations to come.
