The new state-of-the-art Bendigo Hospital continues to receive resounding acclaim, with the $630 million development named a winner in the 2019 Good Design Awards and 2019 Victorian Landscape Architecture Awards.
A win at the 2019 Good Design Awards
At a prestigious awards ceremony on 11 July, the hospital was awarded the 2019 Good Design Award in the Urban Design Category and a 202020 Vision Green Design Award.
The Good Design Awards are one of the oldest international design awards in the world, promoting excellence in design and innovation.
The Good Design Awards jury commended the hospital’s design, commenting:
'The Bendigo Hospital urban design project delivers inspiring landscaped areas that will support the patients and families, as well as staff, with innovative design features. The design delivers social impact in a regional area. A benchmark for regional hospitals, this project showcases the benefits of designing for healthcare using integrated and landscape architecture to be part of the visitor/client experience as well as the health solution. The integrated network of green roofs, roof decks, balconies, courtyards, and external public spaces offers a high quality, attractive and impactful public realm.'
2019 Victorian Landscape Architecture Award winner
The world-class design also received an Award of Excellence in the 2019 Victorian Landscape Architecture Awards, in the Civic Landscape category.
The Award of Excellence is the first and highest award in its category. It is given to the work judged to be the most significant for the advancement of landscape architecture.
Bendigo Hospital’s landscape architecture was recognised as an "an exemplary civic landscape". The jury acknowledged the hospital’s biophilic design and evidence-based approach, commenting:
'The landscapes provide relief, distraction, choice, support and areas for recovery and rehabilitation. Restorative and broadly nurturing, Bendigo Hospital sets a new benchmark for future healthcare environments in Australia, arrived at through inclusive design processes.'
Presided by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, the Victorian Landscape Architecture Awards recognise the positive impact landscape architecture has on Australian lives.
