The State’s largest-ever regional hospital project has won Victoria’s Development of the Year award for 2018.
The $630 million Bendigo Hospital development was awarded the Property Council of Australia’s Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) Victorian Development of the Year award at a ceremony in April. The Exemplar Health Consortium (Capella Capital, Lendlease, Spotless and Siemens) completed stage one in January 2017, with stage two scheduled for completion by the middle of this year.
The state-of-the-art facility features 372 inpatient beds, 72 same-day beds, 11 new operating theatres, an integrated cancer centre and an 80-bed psychiatry services facility including a parent-infant unit. When completed, stage two will include a helipad, link-bridge and a multi-deck carpark. The completed hospital development will have the capability to meet future growth in demand for many years to come.
The award panel were impressed by the development’s clever integration of high technology, such as delivery robots together with natural elements like tranquil gardens that can be enjoyed by patients and visitors alike. General Manager of Lendlease’s Victorian business, Bill Alexandrakis, commented: “Bendigo Hospital provides first-class care to people living across central Victoria. It has been an enormous privilege to work with such a dedicated and passionate team, and to have made a meaningful and lasting contribution to the community.”
'The Bendigo Hospital combines world-class-care with state-of-the-art-design. It showcases the best of government and industry partnership.'
Michael Zorbas, Interim Executive Director, Property Council
The Bendigo Hospital is also shortlisted for the Woods Bagot Award for Best Public Building at the national awards, held in Sydney on Friday 11 May.
