John Holland will deliver a new expanded multi-deck car park as part of the $595 million Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment.
Work to expand the hospital’s multi-deck car park will start in October. Once complete it will bring the total number of hospital car parks to around 800.
The redevelopment will create significantly more car parks for staff, patients and visitors. It will almost double car parking capacity - including more short-term emergency drop-off parking. This addresses a critical need at the hospital.
The parking boost responds to one of the main concerns heard throughout community consultation to shape the redevelopment. Locals contributed more than 1000 pieces of input through surveys and workshops.
Temporary closure and parking impact
To deliver the boost in carparking, the hospital’s multi-deck carpark will temporarily close from 2 October 2023. It will close for approximately 10 months, until July 2024.
Grampians Health is creating a temporary car parking solution. The free park and ride service will be available at the nearby City Oval for staff, patients and visitors.
Temporary transport schedule and locations
Peak periods (6:15am – 9:15am) (2pm – 6pm)
- busses will run on continuous loops.
6pm - 11pm
- busses will run every 15-20 minutes.
The drop off / pick up points at the hospital will be:
- Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC) entry, located on Sturt Street, during daylight hours
- Gardiner Pittard (GP) foyer entry, located on Drummond Street, during evening hours.
We appreciate the patience of hospital staff and the community during this time. We want to balance the impacts of construction while delivering this vital piece of infrastructure for Ballarat and the surrounding communities.
