Construction blitz in the Goldfields

It’s been a busy start to the year with construction commencing on the Bendigo Day Rehabilitation Centre project and new accommodation facilities for healthcare students and trainees at Maryborough and District Hospital.

Bendigo Day Rehabilitation Centre

Works are continuing on the new Bendigo Hospital Day Rehabilitation Centre which will transform the former Bendigo Hospital and offer more services in the city’s state-of-the-art health precinct.

The $59.5 million project will bring a number of services under one roof, including:

  • a new hydrotherapy pool
  • outpatient rehabilitation
  • allied health
  • dental
  • mental health
  • renal dialysis
  • breast screening
  • diabetes education.

Central Victorians will be able to access a team of dedicated health professionals in one place with a holistic and patient-centred approach to rehabilitation and care.

As part of the project the ageing East and North Wing tower buildings, built in 1958 and 1972 respectively, will be demolished. The area will then be converted to open green space for patients, visitors, and staff to enjoy.

Existing services will be relocated to the newly refurbished Phillips and Hyett blocks located at the Bendigo Hospital’s Lucan Street campus.

The project will provide a boost for the local economy and will create and sustain around 180 jobs.

Maryborough and District Hospital Student Accommodation

More than $4 million from the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund will deliver new accommodation facilities in Maryborough. The project includes:

  • 20 single bedrooms
  • communal living, kitchen and dining areas
  • landscaped gardens.

The custom design accommodation facilities will provide a comfortable and convenient place for medical, nursing and allied health students to stay during training and work placements.

This will allow students to maximise their learning opportunities and complement the state-of-the-art training facilities and education programs already available in Maryborough.

And, ultimately, attract more people to kick start their careers in the healthcare sector.
