Designs released for Mansfield aged care development

We've released a first look at new designs for the $62.8 million Mansfield District Hospital aged care development.

The designs reveal a home-like facility with access to natural light and green spaces. The public spaces will encourage social interaction, having a positive effect on the residents' physical and mental wellbeing.

Builder appointed

Builder A W Nicholson has been appointed to the $62.8 million project.

Main construction works will start in late 2024. The redevelopment will be completed in late 2027.

About the redevelopment

The redevelopment will involve building a new 30-bed facility. This will replace the ageing 30-bed Buckland House. The new building will be next to the existing 42-bed Bindaree Retirement Centre, which will also be refurbished.

The new and refurbished facilities will feature:

  • a modern single rooms with private ensuites
  • a dedicated kitchen
  • dining, lounge and break-out sitting areas
  • lots of natural light
  • open area views
  • access to gardens.

Once complete, the dementia-friendly facilities will provide an environment that supports the mental health and complex care needs of older Victorians.

The project is part of the Regional and Rural Public Sector Residential Aged Care Services Revitalisation Strategy. This strategy aims to modernise ageing facilities which are home to some of our most vulnerable older Victorians.
