First look at Austin Hospital emergency department expansion

Designs for a $275 million expansion of the Austin Hospital’s emergency department have been revealed.

Developed by architectural firm NH Architecture, the designs show the new public lobby and inviting entrance.

The designs are inspired by organic shapes and include the use of natural materials to create welcoming and therapeutic spaces within the emergency department.

Once complete in 2028, the project will support an additional 30,000 emergency patients each year.

Main construction works are on track to start later this year.
