Ballarat’s new Grampians Prevention and Recovery Care (PARC) centre has opened.
The $6 million facility provides a safe and supportive setting for people experiencing mental illness and can benefit from short and medium-term recovery focused treatment.
The 12-bed facility includes:
- six beds for short stay patients transitioning between hospital-based care and home
- six beds for patients who need medium-term support and rehabilitation
- a communal kitchen, dining and living areas
- outdoor spaces for recreational activities.
The purpose-built centre will provide a therapeutic and home-like environment. Patients will receive support during their recovery with around-the clock clinical care.
The Grampians PARC centre is operated by Ballarat Health. Designed to increase access to safe, flexible and responsive mental health services, the new centre will help fill the service gap between community and hospital-based care. Now more Western Victorians can get the mental health support they need, closer to home.
The new facility is one of 20 prevention and recovery care centres across Melbourne and regional Victoria.
The program is part of the Victorian Government’s $325.7 million investment in mental health services outlined in the 10-year mental health plan.
