Built, CPB Contractors, Kane Constructions and Watpac Constructions are vying to build the new Barwon Women’s and Children’s facilities being built within the University Hospital Geelong precinct.
The new facilities will provide more:
- maternity inpatient beds
- paediatric multi-day/same day inpatient beds
- special care nursery cots
- birthing suites
- operating theatres
- expanded paediatric and maternity specialist (outpatient) facilities.
The successful builder is expected to be announced in the coming months, with construction set to start in 2024.
Engaging with the community
A panel of local community members has been selected to join the Barwon Women’s and Children’s Community Consultative Committee following an expression of interest process.
The community members will be joined by representatives from:
- Barwon Health
- City of Greater Geelong
- Wadawurrung Traditional Owners
- Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative.
The committee will ensure local views are incorporated into key areas of planning and design of the new facility.
This includes the:
- patient and family experience
- family and outdoor spaces
- accessibility
- wayfinding.
