Locations for five new youth prevention and recovery care(YPARC) centres across Victoria have been announced.
The $141 million project will construct five 10-bed facilities and deliver important upgrades to existing centres in Bendigo, Dandenong and Frankston.
The five new facilities will be located in:
- Greater Geelong
- Greater Ballarat
- Greater Shepparton
- Heidelberg
- Traralgon.
YPARC centres provide residential short and medium-term treatment and support for young people aged between 16-25, who are living with, or diagnosed with, mental ill health.
The new facilities will be designed to be welcoming and home-like, with private bedrooms complete with ensuite bathrooms. Communal kitchens, dining and living areas, breakout spaces and an outdoor garden will encourage rest and recovery, and support family visits.
NTC Architects will lead the design for the five new centres. Bamford Architects will lead the design upgrades to the three existing facilities.
Overall, the $141 million project is expected to create and sustain hundreds of jobs.
