Work has started to expand and upgrade the Maryborough and District Hospital.
The $115 million project will deliver a new purpose-built facility including:
- a new urgent care centre
- a 32-bed inpatient unit
- a new maternity unit and birthing suites
- operating theatres and recovery spaces
- a day medical centre with imaging and pathology services
- consultant suites
- reception area
- additional carparking.
The modern design and layout and co-location of health services will improve patient flow. It will also provide a safer and more efficient workplace for staff and better care for patients.
New birthing suites will mean local women can give birth close to their family and loved ones.
Once complete, the expanded hospital will be able to treat an extra 4,000 patients every year. The expansion and upgrade is on track to be completed progressively from 2024.
We are partnering with the Maryborough District Health Service and building contractor Fairbrother to deliver the project. The project will create and sustain around 345 jobs during the peak of construction.
