Major upgrade works begin at Golden Oaks Nursing Home

Construction is now underway on the major upgrade of Golden Oaks Nursing Home in Bendigo.

The $4.9 million project will build a new 15-bed aged care wing, allowing more residents to move into single rooms with ensuites.

The existing facility will also get a refurbishment, providing residents with modern amenities including more private and comfortable bedrooms. Upgrades to the dining room and kitchen areas will allow for meals to be cooked fresh onsite.

Made possible by funding from the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, the project will support the creation of ten new jobs, and is expected to be completed at the end of 2020.

Stage one works were completed earlier this year, including the creation of a large space linking Golden Oaks Nursing Home and Carshalton House Hostel, as well as a new lifestyle room with cinema, café, reception and office space. A nine-bed area for residents with higher level care needs was also upgraded.

Aged care in Victoria

Victoria has the largest public residential aged care sector in Australia. These facilities play a vital role providing care in many regional and rural communities where there are no other services.

Public residential aged care services also care for our most vulnerable older Victorians who have complex physical or mental health needs.

Funding regional health infrastructure

The $350 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund is the largest of its kind in Victorian history. It provides funding to improve health services in rural and regional Victoria, ensuring all Victorians can access high quality care and facilities no matter where they live.
