New designs released for expanded Werribee Mercy emergency department

Take a first look at renders of the new Werribee Mercy Hospital’s emergency department.

The designs show a new entrance to the emergency department, and illustrations of the external façade.

The expansion will double the emergency department capacity. It will support an extra 25,000 presentations each year.

A local First Nations artist helped to develop artwork that has been incorporated into the façade. The designs will help to create a culturally safe space for First Nations people. They will also showcase a modern and welcoming entrance for people seeking care.

About the project

The expansion will provide a bigger, state-of-the-art facility that delivers the best possible emergency care. This will help reduce pressure on the hospital's dedicated staff and support services.

The project forms part of a $236 million investment that will also boost the emergency department capacity of Casey Hospital Berwick.

Site works have started, with construction of the main new building on track to begin in mid-2024.
