New designs unveiled for the Victorian Heart Hospital

The Victorian Government has released new artist impressions of the Victorian Heart Hospital.

Works are in full swing on the construction of the $564 million* hospital – the first ever specialist heart hospital in Australia. The new hospital will be located at Monash University’s Clayton campus.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australia. Recent statistics show one Australian dies every 12 minutes from cardiovascular disease.

The state-of-the-art hospital will provide the latest in cutting-edge cardiac treatment, world-leading education, training and ground-breaking research.

When the Victorian Heart Hospital opens, it will have capacity for up to 206 beds. It will be able to deliver 2,150 cardiac surgeries, up to 13,500 cardiac laboratory procedures and 108,000 consultations each year.

It will also play an important role in training our future heart specialists and nursing and allied health professionals. The hospital will educate more than 300 undergraduate students, 260 postgraduate students and 20 PhD students each year.

Works are expected to be completed in 2022 and will create more than 1,700 construction jobs.

The project is being delivered in partnership with Monash Health and Monash University.
