New Eltham ambulance station close to completion
The Victorian Government’s rebuild of the state’s ambulance system has reached another milestone with the ‘topping out’ of the new $1.6 million Eltham ambulance station on Grand Boulevard.
With work now focussing on the external façade and equipment and furnishing fit-outs, the new station is expected to be ready for action by June.
Replacing the previous station, which was more than 40 years old, the new purpose-built station will give hard-working paramedics the larger, more modern facilities they deserve, with room to grow to cater for future needs. It features four ambulance bays, four ‘rest and recline’ rooms, a large training room and off-street car parking for staff.
Around 40 paramedics on rotation across the branch’s ambulance service will be based in the new station, with the state-of-the-art facilities enabling faster response times to emergencies.
The Eltham station is part of the Victorian Government’s $500 million plan to improve ambulance response times, employ 450 more paramedics, buy new vehicles and build more stations across the state. An additional $26.5 million committed in the Victorian Budget 2017/18 makes this the largest funding boost ever delivered for Victoria’s ambulance services.
