More people with a terminal illness will be able to access compassionate palliative care services in Ballarat, with the opening of a new palliative care hub.
The facility was made possible via a $6.2 million contribution from the Victorian Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, giving patients, families and carers improved access to the support and resources needed to make decisions around living, dying and grieving well.
Based in Alfredton (a suburb of Ballarat), the new building will allow Ballarat Hospice Care to meet increasing demand for home-based palliative care and bereavement support services.
Offering modern clinical and family counselling rooms, a multipurpose education suite, e-health technology, equipment storage areas and a secure reception, the purpose-built facility has been equipped to meet the demand for compassionate end-of-life care now and into the future. The hub will give staff and volunteers the space they need to meet with clients and families, and undertake training.
Funding regional health infrastructure
The $350 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund is the largest of its kind in Victorian history. It is rebuilding rural and regional health services to ensure all Victorians can access the high-quality care and facilities they need, no matter where they live.
