Plans unveiled for new Wantirna aged care development

Melbourne’s east is one step closer to a new $81.58 million residential aged care facility in Wantirna, with new plans unveiled by Premier Daniel Andrews today.

The 120-bed purpose-built facility will feature single rooms with ensuites, providing privacy and independence while delivering best-practice care. Residents will be accommodated in a home-like environment, with access to natural light and views over the Dandenong Ranges.

The aged care service has been designed to be dementia-friendly and suited to the needs of older people with complex care needs or limited mobility.

Features include a community room, café, sacred space and other common areas – all part of an environment designed to encourage social interactions between residents, staff, families and the community. Contemporary models of care will contribute towards the residents’ physical and mental wellbeing, as well as quality care and safety for residents and staff.

The Wantirna aged care development will be located next to the existing Wantirna Health service. This will create an integrated healthcare hub, making it easier for aged care residents to access medical attention.

Building works start next year, with construction complete and ready for residents in 2022.
