The redeveloped Morrie Evans Wing, a public aged care facility in Benalla, has opened. The 30-bed facility will offer people quality aged care services in a home-like setting.
The $4.1 million refurbishment was made possible by the Victorian Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.
New features of the Morrie Evans Wing
The redevelopment added 16 new single rooms with ensuites. A further 14 rooms were renovated to include extra living space, providing a more comfortable setting for residents to have visitors.
As well as giving residents greater privacy and dignity, the refurbishment added new social spaces.
Residents can mingle and enjoy shared activities in the new sunroom and enclosed activities room. There are also outdoor spaces including a garden, barbeque and reflecting area, and a newly renovated kitchen servery.
The redeveloped wing also considered staff safety and needs. The refurbished wing includes a new nurse unit manager office and nurses’ station as well as improved access and secure doors.
Funding regional health infrastructure
The $350 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund is the largest of its kind in Victorian history. It provides funding to improve health services in rural and regional Victoria, ensuring all Victorians can access high quality care and facilities no matter where they live.
