Topping out celebration at Northern Hospital

On 2 March 2020, Minister for Health, Jenny Mikakos hosted a ‘topping out’ ceremony of the new tower. This is a time-honoured tradition that signifies a structure reaching its highest point.

The seven storey tower is part of the Victorian Government’s $162.7 million expansion of Northern Hospital. The expansion will ensure families of Melbourne’s north have access to first-class care close to home as the region continues to grow.

The topping out ceremony was complete with Minister Mikakos presenting a Certificate of Appreciation to Epping resident, Josie Minnitti OAM. Mrs Minniti has raised more than $700,000 for Northern Hospital’s oncology unit. A building crane on site of the expansion has also been named after Mrs Minniti.

When completed in 2021, the hospital expansion will allow an extra 10,000 patients to be treated every year.
