Upgrades progressing on youth mental health facilities

We've completed the first stage of our multimillion-dollar upgrades to Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (YPARC) centres in Bendigo, Dandenong and Frankston.

A referral-based service, YPARC centres are live-in facilities. They operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They provide care and support to young people aged 16-25 experiencing mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression.

Bendigo

The first stage of the project has delivered:

  • three refurbished bedrooms
  • bigger and better staff and administration areas
  • new and refurbished interview and activity rooms.

Construction on the second stage of the project has begun. This stage will involve refurbishing three more bedrooms and making improvements to the centre's kitchen and activity room.

Dandenong

The first stage of the project has delivered:

  • five refurbished bedrooms
  • bigger and better staff and administration areas.

Construction on the second stage of the project has begun. Three more bedrooms will be refurbished and there will be improvements made to the centre's living, dining, and interview areas.

Frankston

The first stage of the project has delivered:

  • three refurbished bedrooms
  • a new bedroom pod

About the YPARC expansion and upgrade program

The program is delivering new and refurbished centres across Victoria in response to the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System.

The centres are designed to create a welcoming, safe and therapeutic environment.

All three YPARC centres at Bendigo, Dandenong and Frankston will remain operational while the upgrades takes place. Works are being planned and managed to minimise impact to patients, staff and families.
