Work begins on major expansion of Wonthaggi Hospital

It’s been a busy start to the year on the Bass Coast, with main works getting underway on the $115 million expansion of Wonthaggi Hospital.

The Wonthaggi Hospital Expansion will deliver a new 32-bed inpatient ward and add 18 emergency department treatment spaces with the capacity to treat an additional 26,000 patients each year.

The major expansion will also add:

• three new operating theatres
• a new procedure room

The Bass Coast Shire is one of the fastest growing regional areas in Victoria. This redevelopment will reduce the need for patients to travel to other hospitals for care and help meet future demand for services within the community.

Building contractor Kane Constructions has been appointed to deliver the expansion, with 345 jobs expected to be created during construction.

The expansion is expected to be completed in early 2023.
