East Gippsland’s new $45.36 million residential aged care facility in Orbost is taking another step forward.
Designs released
We’ve released the designs for the new 38-bed facility. They reveal a modern aged care home with:
- access to the surrounding natural environment
- open area views
- abundant natural light
- garden areas.
Builder appointed
SJ Higgins has been appointed to deliver the new facility. The redeveloped facility will replace Orbost Regional Health’s ageing Lochiel House and Waratah Lodge facilities.
Construction begins
Works have begun on the $45.36 million facility. The project is expected to be completed in late 2026.
It is likely to create and sustain more than 135 construction industry jobs, as well as job opportunities generated by the new facility once operational.
About the redevelopment
The new facility will be dementia-friendly. Residents will enjoy modern single rooms with private ensuites and a home-like feel. It will also be better suited to supporting the mental health and complex care needs of older Victorians.
The facility will be operated by Orbost Regional Health.
The project forms part of the Regional and Rural Public Sector Residential Aged Care Services Revitalisation Strategy. The strategy aims to modernise ageing facilities which are home to some of our most vulnerable older Victorians.
