Early works have started on the Wonthaggi Hospital expansion, bringing the $115 million project one step closer.
Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale MP turned the first sod on the state-of-the-art redevelopment this week. The new hospital will give the Bass Coast and South Gippsland communities the world-class care they need.
New artist impressions have also been revealed providing a first glimpse at the emergency department, the surgical department and the expanded carpark.
The centrepiece of the project will be a bigger and better emergency department. It will have the capacity to treat an extra 26,000 emergency patients each year.
Last month, community drop-in sessions were held for locals to learn more about the hospital expansion project. The sessions were an opportunity for people to share ideas, raise concerns and provide local insights to help inform the project.
By 2031, the Bass Coast Shire is expected to grow by 55 per cent, making it one of the highest growth areas in regional Victoria.
The project is expected to create around 345 jobs and will be completed in 2023.
