Health care access gets three times better for Broadford

Better access and more consulting rooms for Melbourne’s booming north. That’s what Broadford residents can look forward to after a Victorian Government funding boost to Nexus Primary Health.

The busy community health centre will receive $3.7 million to redevelop facilities and expand services, in order to meet increasing demand from the fast growing northern growth corridor.

The area is projected to see a population increase of 230,000 by 2030. The funding will enable Nexus to more than triple its number of consulting suites from seven to 23. In addition, 20 new work stations will give staff a more efficient work environment, and the ability to deliver better connected services and high quality care to locals in Broadford and beyond.

Nexus Primary Health delivers a broad range of primary health services including allied health, alcohol and other drug rehabilitation, disability, family violence, financial counselling, home help, homeless accommodation and gamblers help. These services are offered alongside general practitioners and nursing, mental health and health promotion.

The funding is provided through the Victorian Government’s $200 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund. The Victorian Budget 2017-18 will deliver $1.67 billion to support hospitals in meeting demand and providing high quality care that all Victorian patients deserve, including $428.5 million in new hospital upgrades.
