The new $1.5 million Portland Community Mental Health Care Centre is taking shape with the concrete slab and wall framing now complete.
On track for completion by November 2020, the centre will include:
- separate adult and child waiting areas
- sensory gardens
- five private interview rooms
- a child/family interview room
- a staff office and support area
- a multi-purpose conference room also available for community use.
There will be purpose-built spaces for individual and groups therapeutic activities. More private consulting rooms will also increase the number of available daily appointments. Telehealth and video conferencing facilities will also be available.
The new centre will mean greater access to high quality mental health support for the local community. More appointments and increased flexibility will also help reduce crisis situations and pressure on emergency services.
The new facility was funded through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund and delivered by South West Healthcare, who will operate the new centre.
Funding regional health infrastructure
The $350 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund is the largest of its kind in Victorian history. It provides funding to improve health services in rural and regional Victoria, ensuring all Victorians can access high quality care and facilities no matter where they live.
