[End of transcript]

The $65.7 million project is now open to patients and has delivered:

  • a state-of-the-art emergency department
  • a four-bed short-stay unit
  • a new entry on McCrae Street
  • eight additional points of care for a total of 15 points of care
  • medical imaging.

Quicker emergency care in a welcoming environment

The project more than doubled the available treatment spaces.

The existing outdated emergency department was replaced. The redevelopment also added a new four-bed short-stay unit, isolation room and behavioural assessment room.

Improved waiting times and enlarged waiting areas mean people can access emergency care quicker and in a more welcoming environment.

About the Swan Hill emergency department redevelopment

The design was informed by those who will be using the new facilities most. This includes health service staff. It supports the privacy of patients and provides a modern and efficient working environment for staff.

The increased capacity will ensure the hospital can meet the existing and future health needs of the community.

The Victorian Government invested $35.7 million towards the project, and the Commonwealth Government $30 million.
