The installation marks an important step in the $134.91 million redevelopment, with most of the services in the tower now finished.
The new clinical tower will help the hospital treat patients with higher care needs and avoid transfers to other hospitals. The tower includes:
- 128 multiday inpatient beds
- a 12-bed intensive care unit
- four more operating theatres
- a new central sterilising services unit.
The expansion will increase the range and capacity of Casey Hospital’s services to meet soaring demand for health care in one of Victoria’s fastest-growing regions.
Once completed in 2020, the expanded Casey Hospital will be able to treat an extra 25,800 patients and perform an extra 8000 surgeries and procedures each year.
